Mestre – San Giuliano Park, Porta Blu (Blue Entrance)
Finish
Venezia – Riva Sette Martiri.
Distance
10,7km aproximately.
Description
After starting from San Giuliano Park in Mestre (Porta blu - Venicemarathon Exposport Village) athletes will reach Venice crossing the 4 km long bridge: Ponte della Libertà (Freedom Bridge) to enter the new Harbour area and reach the historic centre of the city, where the nicest and most spectacular part of the race course starts. Runners will run by the Canale della Giudecca up to the Punta della Dogana, here athletes will cross the Grand Canal on a bridge, built for the Venicemarathon. Then the course leads runners through St. Mark Sq. , next to the Campanile and the Palazzo Ducale to reach the finish line in Riva Sette Martiri.
Difficulties
The VM10K course is basically flat and fast. There are just a few difficulties: in the final 3 kilometres the running surface will be mainly made of large rectangular stone slabs.
The course is entirely closed to traffic and every kilometer is marked.
Course highlights
Zattere, a 2-km-long embankment next to the Giudecca Canal, where athletes run close to the water.
The Bridge over the Grand Canal, a 170-meters-long bridge which is built just before the marathon and dismantled the night after.
Piazza San Marco and Palazzo Ducale, historical Venice landmarks.
Finish line in Riva Sette Martiri, in the picturesque waterfront of St. Mark's Basin.
